Conference Overview
The FEDN Secretariat at CIPE is pleased to host the inaugural conference of the Free Enterprise & Democracy Network (FEDN). This virtual, two-day conference will serve as a compliment to the World Movement for Democracy and convene leaders and advocates under the theme of "Towards Successful Transitions: Economic Recovery and Democratic Renewal."
The conference aims to successfully communicate and publicize the importance of free markets and democracy while explaining their significance to future global development and recovery. The conference will showcase private sector and public policy solutions while emphasizing FEDN member initiatives.
The conference is open to the general public and will feature special sessions exclusively for FEDN members.
Day 1 (June 28) event topics include:
• Markets and democracy under threat
• How can the private sector create space for democratic participation and economic reform?
• How can we protect democratic and market institutions by re-establishing trust, anti-corruption initiatives, and countering populism and corrosive foreign influence?
Day 2 (June 29) event topics include:
• Markets and democracy as reinforcing pillars during the recovery
• How do we recover from COVID economically and politically? How do we do this inclusively and with built-in resiliency?
• Economic recovery and democratic renewal in the Asian context (a special evening event)
About the Free Enterprise & Democracy Network
The Free Enterprise and Democracy Network (FEDN) was established by CIPE in 2012 to promote international engagement around the principles of free enterprise and democracy and bring private sector voices into global discourse on democracy. The network provides a mechanism for private sector leaders and advocates of economic freedom across the world to exchange ideas and support, and make the case for democratic, prosperous societies.
FEDN’s experts serve as advisors for democratic transitions and provide technical assistance to reform initiatives around the world. Our members bring an economic reform perspective to international democracy forums and share their experiences in championing the principles of free enterprise and democracy.
